Can I find out if someone is married by inquiring at the City Clerk's Office?

Certain persons, namely, a spouse or a spouse-to-be, can legally inquire about the prior marital history of their spouse or intended spouse. Members of the general public may not. After the person makes the request, supplies enough information to conduct the search and pays the required fee ($5) the Office of the City Clerk will confirm the fact of a prior marriage to such person with a "No" or a "Yes" answer only. No records will be provided.
