How Important Is A Marriage Certificate To A Married Couple?

 

A Marriage Certificate is a very valuable asset in a life of legal married couple. This certificate is issued to both husband and wife, who have been socially married to each other. The registration of the Marriage Certificate is done under the Hindu Marriage Act, 1954. The Hindu Marriage Act is applicable for such cases where both the husband and the wife are either Hindus, Buddhists, Janis or Sikhs or whether they have converted themselves to any other religion as required.

For registering one’s Marriage Certificate, both the husband and wife have to undergo some legal proceedings. There is a separate registration form for the purpose of registry of the marriage. The form should be properly filled up and signed by both the husband and the wife. Apart from filling up the form, there are few important documents which both the sides that is from the husband’s and wife’s part has to be produced before the registration form has been finally signed. The documents which are needed to be presented are a proof of residence, which can be either Voter I card or Ration Card. Separate affidavit should be given in the prescribed format from both Husband and Wife and also the proof of Date of Birth of both the ends must be submitted. Most important thing is the two passport size photograph of the husband and the wife and also a social marriage photograph, if the marriage has been held before the registry marriage.

If any one – either husband or wife belong to any other religion except Hindu, Buddhist, Jain and Sikh, then in that case a conversion certificate should be given by the priest who performed the rituals of the inter-religion marriage. All these above mentioned documents should be attested by a Gazette officer; otherwise these Xerox papers will be of no value. There is a fixed rate for all this norms to be held. Both the families that are the family of the husband and that of the wife should consult a lawyer who can help them out in these legal proceedings. After the registry marriage is held it takes only seven days to get the Marriage Certificate.

It is very important that the signature of both, the husband and the wife should be done in front of the officer who is making all these proceedings authentic. The Marriage certificate is a valuable document which shows that both of the individuals are nicely knitted to each other undergoing some legal proceedings. Marriage Certificate is also useful for changing the surname of the wife in her profession if she is working in that office before marriage. On the other hand this will add up to the file of important documents.
